How’s this for an understatement?

Cell phone use is on the rise.

Duh!

And that’s not changing anytime soon.

Whether it’s using your phone for the basics like texting, browsing the Internet, checking social media, watching YouTube videos, catching up on the news, listening to your favorite podcast or music…

I think we can all unfortunately agree that our phone use is growing, not declining.

And there are SO MANY other aspects of our life that are impacted by our phones. Just looking at my phone I came up with the following random list in no particular order:

How about…

  • texting
  • checking the weather
  • ordering an Uber or Lyft
  • banking
  • listening to an audiobook
  • taking pictures or videos
  • joining an online meeting
  • using Maps or a GPS app
  • checking in at the gym
  • boarding a flight
  • as a credit card alternative at the store (thank you Apple Pay)
  • sending money to someone
  • using 2-factor authentication
  • setting an alarm or timer
  • using as a calculator or flashlight
  • launching an app
  • shopping
  • paying for parking
  • starting, locking, or unlocking your car
  • checking your calendar
  • checking the stock market
  • as a dictation device
  • tracking your steps or other health-related data
  • submitting or checking restaurant reviews
  • going to a sporting event or concert
  • watching TV
  • talking on the phone – lol

It’s incredible when you think about it. Kind of spooky (pun intended for Halloween!) 😁

And yet despite this extensive list, I’m sure I’ve missed a few things. So feel free to weigh in and let me know…

But in all fairness, that’s not the point here.

The point in this post is that there are times when using your phone is unsafe, prohibited, or inappropriate.

So, what do you do if you need to enforce a “No Cell Phone” policy at your company?

Well fortunately, there’s a local NJ-based company who offers a number of solutions.

Introducing Scott Schober with Berkeley Varitronics Systems. BVS is a hi-tech company that develops some very cool technology!

Here’s a link to BVA’s website along with a few (older) videos:

Can’t say I have a need for this technology, but find it very interesting and thought it was worth sharing in case you could benefit from it.

Or perhaps you know someone who could…
