Looking back on 2016, it’s amazing to see how many more packages arrive via UPS at home. It’s obviously a result of how our purchasing habits are changing.

And since the Christmas holiday season is in full swing, I’m reminded of this daily.

Talk about “The Cloud” in action!

Amazon is a pioneer and has certainly had a tremendous impact, along with many other “e-tailers”. And this only covers 3-dimentional products. How about all of the “digital” and “information-based” goods & services? Where there’s no physical product; just a download. Like iTunes music, software programs, and online courses.

In 100 years, will small children still believe that Santa and his crew are actually coming to deliver their gifts?

How will his legacy be re-shaped in years to come with the dominance of online purchases and daily deliveries? Just wondering…

So I started thinking, if Santa can leverage the cloud, why can’t you?

Your voice and data systems no longer need to be located “on-prem” (aka in your office).

This got me thinking even more. So I looked back over the past 3 years at the percentage of our new VoIP installations that ere premise-based vs. hosted in the cloud. And here’s what I discovered:

  • In 2014, 100% of our new VoIP phone system installations were still premise-based. Yet interestingly enough, 50% of those “on-prem” installations leveraged the cloud for their carrier services via SIP trunks.
  • In 2015, our volume increased, but only 40% of our new VoIP phone system installations were premise-based. And of the 40% of “on-prem” installations, the majority leveraged the cloud for their carrier services via SIP trunks.
  • In 2016, our volume increased yet again, but only 15% of our new VoIP phone system installations were premise-based. And of the 15% of “on-prem” installations, 100% of those leveraged the cloud for their carrier services via SIP trunks (with a few exceptions that installed both SIP and traditional PRI circuits).

This speaks volumes to the major shift that’s occurring in the voice & data sector.

I found this very interesting and hope you did as well.
